HENRY BUILDS A CABIN

by | Read by James Naughton

Children Ages 4-6 • 5 min. • Unabridged • © 2003

Sounds of woodworking tools and gentle music provide the casual backdrop for Henry, a bear (but read Henry David Thoreau), as he sets about to build a cabin nestled on the wooded shore of Walden Pond. As the seasons unfold and the work moves purposefully along, many of Henry’s distinguished neighbors visit and remark upon the small size of his abode. “It’s bigger than it looks,” he responds, and Henry knows just how Nature will expand each room. The detail of Johnson’s illustrations adds greatly to the sparse text. The listener’s experience is expanded manyfold by taking time, as Henry would, to both savor the thoughts and delight in the visual presentation.
