How do you measure degrees of evil? That's the gnawing issue at the core of Frederick Forsyth's new global thriller, a story as rooted in the present day as anything he's written. From Vietnam to Bosnia to the Caribbean to the enclaves of terrorism and the calculating corridors of power, two strands of plot sweep along until they come inevitably together. Eric Conger's crisp, clipped narration is a powerful complement to the author's text, and his accents--where employed--add to the credibility of the settings and characters. M.J.B.
