DEEP WATERS

Sean Barrett skillfully adds calm to this potentially melodramatic story while applying his considerable talents to a diverse cast. When a decapitated body washes up from the Bosphorus, Inspector Ikmen quickly realizes that it's part of a FIS (a blood feud) among Albanian immigrants. Several violent subplots require Barrett to portray, with equal believability, an aristocratic gentleman, a young Albanian woman, a transvestite, and a Turkish-British family, among others. Finally, a fifty-year-old mystery is revealed due to Inspector's Ikmen's admirable persistence. This is the perfect choice for those who like strong doses of suspense and action. S.G.B.
