ZATHURA

Feuding brothers Walter and Danny Budwing find a board game in the park and take it home, unaware that Zathura is no ordinary game. The listener hears Danny roll the dice on the board and methodically move his token. As he haltingly reads the first playing card warning him to take evasive action, meteors loudly crash onto the roof of their home, which is now adrift in outer space. Each roll brings new peril. A full cast narrates this story, punctuated with cosmic sound effects. The boys interact believably while working together to complete the game--if they can. When Zorgon pirates attack, rousing music enlivens the scene and lightens the tension. Even without the companion picture book, Zathura is a vivid adventure. L.T.
