With her lilting accents, Eilidh Beaton transports the listener to another place and time. In the Scottish Highlands during WWII, Maisie has left home to become a "lumberjill" with the Women's Timber Corps. It's here that she meets John, a Canadian with secrets and hidden emotional pain. Beaton gives this young adult novel a soothing tone, adding heightened emotions when required. However, her slow delivery makes this historical romance sound as if it were written for a much younger audience, especially when she voices the Canadian characters. Additionally, some slight inconsistencies in accents stand out due to the leisurely pace. Overall, this is a passable narration. A.L.S.M. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2018]
