The subject of some books is so dramatic in itself that neither writer nor narrator needs to embellish it much; so it is with this history of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Lord portrays the day with stunning details from both the Japanese and the American perspectives, as well as humorous and tragic vignettes. Reader Tom Parker matches Lord perfectly. He is low-key, deliberate and matter-of-fact, never sensational or sentimental. Parker also handles the difficult Japanese names with considerable skill. This is a fine audiobook for everyone, not just WW II buffs. T.H. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 98]
