THE DEAD AND OTHER STORIES FROM DUBLINERS

Though only six of the 15 short stories originally collected in Dubliners appear here, these six are unabridged. Loosely connected thematically, they’re vivid sketches depicting various aspects of the lives of nineteenth-century Dublin residents. Reader McKenna’s intimacy with Joyce’s text is apparent. Having previously performed Joyce’s works on stage, film and TV, McKenna expertly captures a wide range of character types, from crass gallants to sweet, aged aunts. He succeeds equally well with descriptive passages, his calm detachment reflecting Joyce’s thoughtful omniscience.
