In any beginning language program one can get enough of a grasp to survive as a tourist and to start making new friends. This particular set, with its focus on the basics, is well paced and clearly enunciated. Starting with the alphabet, numbers, and pronunciation, it moves through the grammar of gender agreement and verbs as it covers the topics of time, weather, and shopping. The set includes culture notes, as well as several adult conversations. The readers convey enthusiasm, and there are multiple instances to test yourself with practice dialogues. Though there is no workbook or written exercises, one may actually obtain university credit through an online affiliation with Seattle Central Community College.
