Narrators Annie Aldington and David Thorpe enrich this fantasy set in England in 2022. John Woodruff, portrayed by Thorpe, is skeptical when he learns that the care home where Margaret, his mother, resides is adding robot caregivers. As Margaret, Aldington projects confusion until Winifred, her new carer, vastly improves her life. Margaret is soon movingly trying to explain human nature to Winifred, whose conversational style belies her being a robot. Aldington's depiction of the death of a sweet 104-year-old woman rivals anything on stage or screen. Both narrators superbly impart Kitcatt's lyrical writing and the changes in the home's residents as their health improves. Hilarious well-delivered robot comments about the illogic of humans add levity. A hopeful yet believable conclusion wraps up this captivating listening experience.
