Young Adult • 2 hrs. • Anthology • © 1976

Vocal presentation is the strongest point of this audiobook. The reader, Suzanne Toren, does a faultless job. Her voice is clear, resonant and flows effortlessly between characterizations, presenting each as distinct personalities. The conversational prose gives clear mental pictures of the settings. The somewhat dreary but ordinary people are not often characterized in YA fiction; however, these readers like a good dose of reality. Even in the most dismal of situations, there is a spark of hope or resolve at the end, leaving the listener with some optimism. Three of the eight stories in the book are included and the listener may be motivated to read on. P.L. Winner of AUDIOFILE Earphones Award ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: APR 93]
