THE DECEIVER

The cold war is over. Sam McCready, Chief of Covert Operations for the British Secret Service, is about to be put out to pasture. These three short stories recount McCready's daring accomplishments and questionable methods. David Case's presentation is top drawer, and his British style fits the material to a tee. Delicate shifts in phrasing and tone help readers empathize with Sam's anger at people who are more concerned about procedure than results. Case's greatest gift is his ability to use the pregnant pause to help the reader understand the plot and key characters. Case gets high marks for this effort.
