Listening to this audiobook takes one back to New York City's privileged social scene of the 1930s, a world of parties, dance clubs, politics, and, of course, crime. This crime novel is the third in the Art Deco mysteries, featuring crime fighter Lane Sanders, who is also an aide to Governor Fiorello La Guardia. Narrator Emma Lysy radiates energy and enthusiasm as she presents this story, providing a girlish, Midwestern voice for Lane. English accents prove a challenge for Lysy, and some of the characters have similar sounding voices. In all fairness, there are many characters to portray, all defined by generic categories. The audiobook has a certain glitzy charm, nonetheless. D.L.J. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2019]
