MAD ABOUT THE BOY is a roller coaster of a story peopled with delightful, eccentric, and scary characters. After Antonia and Hugo, her aristocratic husband, move from London to Sydney, the last thing she expects is to learn that he's gay. Hurt, upset, and given to reclusive comfort eating, Antonia sees no happy future until Uncle Percy Hugo makes a surprise visit. Each character is given uniqueness as narrator Stephanie Daniel takes on this challenging assignment. Best is Uncle Percy, who literally comes alive in her skillful delivery. The engaging British and Australian accents and the authentic rendering of emotion in such a situation enhance Alderson's outstanding story. A must for those who love Aussie fiction.
