In the tradition of ROOM and THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, this story is told from a distinctive point of view--in this case, that of 7-year old Dolly Rust. Narrator Cassandra Morris captures Dolly's youthful exuberance with ease, fairly hopscotching through Dolly's "advanced" vocabulary and self-proclaimed wealth of knowledge and skill. That said, there are times--many times--when the nonstop energy and child's tone, combined with the conspicuously adorable prose, become exhausting. Once the plot takes form, however, listeners may be drawn into the drama. The mystery of why Dolly's father has taken her on an impromptu "adventure" is intriguing enough to keep the listener engaged and tolerant of the highly skilled, slightly extreme, delivery.
