MIDNIGHT PASS

In the wake of his wife's senseless death, Lew Fonesca is living out a numb existence as a part-time process server in Sarasota. He doesn't want the complication of involvement, be it a conversation or a relationship. But he finds that the world will not stay shut out. He investigates twin mysteries--the disappearance of a councilman on the eve of an important vote and the sudden departure of a wife and her children. Scott Brick gives a perfectly competent performance, especially his handling of the frequent verbal sparring. A darker tone, however, would have made the experience more memorable. M.O.
