Murder, intrigue, love and obsession are mixed together in Robert Parker’s newest novel. A departure from the Spenser mysteries, this begins in 1920’s Ireland with Conn Sheridan, a member of the IRA. Intertwined fortunes and misfortunes including murder and other mysteries unwind in the telling of this tale. Ron McLarty reads with Irish brogues and Boston accents. The women are represented by quiet voices, while the men have accents. The dialogue is punctuated by subtle sound effects, mostly to change scenes and disguise abridgments. Ron McLarty was a good choice for narrator based on his role in “Spenser for Hire” and his familiarity with Parker’s dialogue style. M.B.K. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: MAR 95]
