Excerpts from the letters of family, friends, lovers and Sarah herself are included. The narrator uses these opportunities for dramatic reading effectively. However, the majority of the book is scholarly in its approach, and little can be done to enhance the performance. The multitude of names, dates and other data may be overwhelming to the listener.
