THE DOCUMENTS IN THE CASE

This mystery novel (which does not feature Peter Wimsey) consists largely of a series of letters, which present the oral interpreter with several extended character monologues. Nigel Anthony makes a virtuoso display of these, leaving the listener with the impression that he could sound convincingly like almost anyone. Unfortunately, the novel isn't Sayers at her best. It has problems with pacing and focus that only an editor could solve. Still, the central problem is engaging enough that the listener is likely to feel compelled to see it through to solution.
