DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE & TRAVELS WITH A DONKEY

by | Read by David Case

Classics • 6.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1886

Stevenson's well-known story of the two sides of man's nature is here paired with a more obscure, autobiographical account of the author's travels in France on a donkey. David Case, the British narrator familiar from his readings for Books On Tape, reads clearly, characterizing voices in JEKYLL and ably producing French accents (and French phrases) in TRAVELS. The former story works well here; Case employs distinctive voices for the various narrators of the story, including recognizably different voices for Jekyll and his alter ego. TRAVELS is less successful. The narrative features some interesting characters and observations, but Case's somewhat acerbic tone and the long stretches of text in the author's voice become monotonous.
