Narrators Andi Arndt and Shane East lay on the angst in Teagan and Caleb’s college romance in Boston. Teagan’s family offers board to British exchange student Caleb. A rocky start evolves into love as they bond over childhood traumas. Arndt delivers Teagan’s observations in a well-modulated voice with a tone of humor while also playing up her defensiveness. For Caleb, Arndt uses a much lower voice. East uses an arch tone and a British accent for Caleb and an American accent for Teagan. His narration comes from inside Caleb’s mind—listeners will feel close to the character when East is narrating. Neither narrator uses a Boston accent, and Ward’s writing sometimes drips with a sentimentality the narrators can’t mop up. A fun listen—Arndt and East make the emotions real.
