Narrator Lyndsay Paulina convincingly re-creates Wisconsin family life in 1962. Listeners will happily join the Tibbe family as they travel to the countryside to visit Josiah's Apple Orchard. Young Vivvy and Matt like apples (as much as candy!) and love going in their dad's old Cadillac to pick their own treats. Paulina realistically describes their road trip as they play car games, sing songs (charmingly performed), comment on nature, eat in a diner, and picnic in the orchard. Most affecting is Josiah van Zack, whose raspy, heavily accented voice recounts his life as a farmer. Sadly, "progress," specifically, a freeway, will soon close the orchard. This heartwarming story will appeal to listeners of all ages. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2020]
