This first novel by a new voice in hard-boiled crime fiction develops with a fast pace, gritty New York settings, and edgy dialogue. Adams Morgan's rapid, clipped reading and high-pitched voice are distracting and not well suited to Atwood's noir adventure about a detective who pursues a runaway through the tenements, dance clubs and drug dives of Manhattan's East Village and Alphabet City.
