A KNIFE IN THE BACK

A college trustee is stabbed to death, and suspicion falls on a young English professor whose knife is the murder weapon. The prof and the head of his department decide the only way to clear him is to find the real killer. Cristine McMurdo-Wallis reads with just the right touch for this lightweight mystery. Her low-pitched voice does well by the male and female characters, and her phrasing is impeccable. Unfortunately, the production includes audible sounds of breathing and swallowing, which distract from an otherwise entertaining performance. J.B.G.
