Imogen Page, an FBI agent who perceives patterns in serial killers via taste and smell, is on the track of Loverboy, a vicious serial killer who tortures his victims and then kills them. The collages he sends always have clues to where he is and what his victim will look like in death. But this case is different as Loverboy wants Imogen to find him. Liz Zazzi portrays Loverboy with a mind-numbing intonation that exudes the exactness and absolute control he holds over his victims, while Imogen is heard as patient and focused on all the details her senses can summon. It takes Zazzi a while to sound comfortable with Jaffe's sadistic character, the vivid descriptions of torture and mutilation, and the convoluted plot, but the emotional distance is all important if Imogen and the listener are to solve this mystery and rescue Loverboy's victim.
