Fiona Mackenzie, amazingly, survives a vicious attack that left her parents dead. Dr. Samantha Laschen and her daughter Elsie have just moved to the village of Stamford to escape London. Sam is bullied into sheltering Fiona, and after several shocking revelations, the three are soon faced with terrifying danger. Julia Franklin narrates clearly and consistently. She uses changes in tone and pacing to help build the suspense in this thriller. Franklin's female voices are outstanding, especially little Elsie's, but her male ones lack uniqueness and strength. Overall, Franklin's engagement and the realism of this psychological page-turner will entertain listeners. Don't listen alone on a dark night.
