It's been nearly twenty years since a serious study has been made of all aspects of Eisenhower's life--military, political and personal. This audio version appears in two volumes, of 15 hours (covering Ike's life up to the end of WWII) and 12 hours, respectively. Perret's book is no dry recital of facts, but delivers opinions and draws conclusions in a smooth, conversational style. Jeff Riggenbach's reading is clear, steady and comfortably paced. Still, his delivery is that of a capable newscaster; a more conversational and involved reading might have better served the author's voice. A technical note: Slack editing occasionally makes the listener think that a section or chapter has ended when it hasn't. S.P. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 00]
