THE ELEVENTH PLAGUE

by | Read by John Shea

Mystery & Suspense • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 1998

Noted virologist Jack Bryne sets out to track down the brilliant and diabolical serial killer who is reenacting the biblical plagues in a vindictive wave of bioterrorism. There are a number of suspects (the FBI comes to consider Dr. Bryne himself a suspect) and allies, and actor John Shea gives each a distinctive and consistent voice. Shea's reading of Marr (an epidemiologist) and Baldwin's medical thriller is engrossing. Through shifts in pacing and intonation, he effectively communicates the escalating terror as each plague is recreated but never overwhelms the story by being overly dramatic. An excellent example of a well-crafted story made even better in the hands of a master reader. C.R.A. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 98]
