FAT CHANCE, CHARLIE VEGA

In a shy, adolescent tone, narrator Carla Vega tells the story of Charlie Vega, who fights to prove herself worthy of love. Charlie's experience of the world is primarily one of negative messaging, particularly from her mother, who doesn't believe Charlie is worthy of love because she is fat. Charlie's voice is sweet and laugh-out-loud funny at times as she learns to love her body as it is despite her mother's insistence that she needs to lose weight before she can be happy and successful. A sweet romance blossoms, and you can hear the smiles in Charlie's voice as she gains confidence and interacts with crushes, best friends, and co-workers.
