Martie Miles's high-spirited narration reveals the joys and disappointment in the not-so-easy life of a 10-year-old. After Roosevelt Banks wrecks his bike in a science experiment gone awry, his parents refuse to replace it--unless he can stay out of trouble for two weeks. With a blend of comedy and drama, Miles's perfectly pitched intonations highlight the humor and heartwarming elements of Roosevelt's struggles to be good, as well as his fear that his friends won't find him fun to be around. The rich sound effects add to the energy of the story. While there is one use of "pissed off," which might not please some parents, elementary school children will probably find Roosevelt's thoughts and actions relatable and hilarious.
