THE EMPEROR’S LAST ISLAND

This seamless combination of travelogue, biography and history, evokes a picture of Napoleon’s years in exile (1815-1821) on St. Helena in the South Atlantic. Interwoven with Napoleon’s chronology is a more interesting narrative of St. Helena’s history, as well as the adventures of the author as a visitor to the island. Nadia May’s skillful narration enlivens the occasional snippets of Napoleonic dialogue. Through her smooth reading, the listener can sense the ennui and frustration of the once powerful emperor confined on a desolate island with little in the way of purpose or diversion.
