Billy Rucker, who finds missing persons, becomes embroiled in a series of grisly murders that eventually land him at the center, harking back to one his earlier cases. Gordon Griffin reads in a conversational tone except when the violence and horror dictate intensity. Nothing is spared in the raw descriptions of pregnant women who are murdered and then have their fetuses cut out of them. Griffin's voices for the characters are believable and well done, and he handles Billy's tender feelings toward his girlfriend, Sharon, as well as his fear for her life, with compassion. This is compelling listening, but the brutal images may be tough going for some. S.S.R. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 05]
