GRANNY NOTHING

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Sophie Aldred

Children Ages 8+ • 2.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2003

Granny Nothing is larger than life but still a believable character who descends on Stephanie, Ewen, and Baby Thomas. Her boisterous nature helps the children cope with bullies at school, and she single-handedly sends the neighbors' rottweilers, Hannibal and Lechter, scampering in fear. Narrator Sophie Aldred makes each character distinctive, with Granny being the best. Her Scottish accent and rollicking singing are terrific. However, when Baby Thomas utters his first words, learned from Granny, Aldred is most winning. Those first words--"hell's bells and buckets"--are unbeatable. Another outstanding title from BBC Audiobooks enchants, entertains, and gently conveys important lessons for children. S.G.B.
