WENDY

Karen Wallace works with an unusual supposition in her novel for young adults. Taking the Banks family of PETER PAN fame, she develops a whole family story separate from the Neverland adventures. The reality for Wendy is one of desperately wanting to understand her position in the family, to feel her parents' love, and to have a sincere friendship. Jan Francis narrates with clarity and frankness. She takes the listener into her confidence; hence, Wendy's pain at discovering the truth of her parents' relationship, her delight in being simpatico with her friend Thomas, and her satisfaction with her personal growth are all the more real.
