About Andrew Harvey's passion for his thesis and for the excerpts of poetry and prose in this collection there can be no doubt. Harvey's intensity matches that of the gay men and lesbian women whose work he celebrates. This abridgment works nicely as an introduction to the mystical tradition of gay men and lesbian women and to the writings of mystics generally, although some may disagree with his definition of gay, mystic or both. In the interview that follows, Harvey is articulate, thoughtful and well spoken. The interviewer, Michael Toms, seems less at ease than Harvey and is a bit wooden, but, overall, the interview provides an interesting perspective on the mystical traditions represented in the collection.
