Kari Wynne, a Denver television reporter, is devastated when her husband, Tom, a city councilman, is killed in a senseless accident. But her devastation escalates when local District Attorney Hunter McKee names Tom when exposing inappropriate expenditures on the part of certain members of the council. Nonetheless, Hunter is instantly attracted to Kari, and reluctantly she is drawn to him. Narrator Susan Ericksen's proficiency at reading contemporary romance is highlighted as her gentle nuances reveal the characters' range of emotions.
