THE EXILES AT HOME

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Julia McKenzie

Children • 4.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1993

When the four Conroy daughters secretly sponsor a child in Africa, the results are both hilarious and moving. They're sorely challenged to come up with ten pounds a month to maintain their pledge. Narrator McKenzie is wonderful with the varied voices that make up this little comedy. She portrays old voices like Big Grandma's (who soon catches on to their plight), as well as each sister's, in a distinct way. McKenzie also does an outstanding job with the text. This tale handles the relationship between the children and a very old couple beautifully. Listeners of all ages who enjoy British and children's humor and outstanding vocal performances will love this title. S.G.B.
