Narrator Rebecca Jenkins portrays 50-something self-deprecating alcoholic single mother Robin MacFarland with just the right tone, pace, and inflection to generate laughter. This audiobook is a cozy. The murder at the center of the plot doesn't even take place until Chapter 9. MacFarland, who has been the Home and Garden reporter for the TORONTO EXPRESS for too many years, is yearning to change her life--personally and professionally. With the help of her colleague, Cindy, she manages to step into a whopper of a story. Jenkins performs the male voices effectively. Cindy's voice is somewhat nasal and is not clearly defined in the quick dialogues with MacFarland. Nonetheless, those willing to suspend disbelief will enjoy a fun listening experience.
