OPERATION GRENDEL

Adam Verner narrates a mind-bending military science-fiction adventure from the point of view of a journalist. Raymin eschews his father's storied military career to enlist as a writer for the media arm of the colonial government. In a heart-pounding turn of events, he's forced to assume the identity of a captain to negotiate with grendels, a group of humans that have allowed AI to take control of their minds. Verner slips into each character with ease, complementing the intricate characterizations. The story thunders along with unrelenting twists and turns--all capably delivered. An explosive ending all but demands a relisten to uncover all the hidden details, an enjoyable prospect considering Verner's steadfast narration. J.M.M.
