Narrators Christina Delaine and Mikhaila Aaseng combine forces to tell the story of Cricket and Ruby. When Cricket, owner of an antique store, discovers her husband is cheating on her, she turns to her employee, Ruby, to help her cope. Delaine takes on the chapters from Cricket's point of view, and Aaseng handles the ones from Ruby's. Each narrator is aptly suited to the characters. Aaseng's performance brings out the tough attitude of Ruby, who has a shady past. Delaine gives Cricket a hint of Southern upper-crust society. Aaseng's narration evolves as Ruby's feelings transition from sullenness to acceptance of her family. Delaine brings out Cricket's determination to deal with her husband.
