Narrator Luke Welland delivers the story of Michael, an American Jew, and his girlfriend, Deborah, a Christian Arab. It is 1980; they have been dating for six years and are successful psychologists. Recognizing the need for a period of reflection for themselves and each other, they decide to embark on a journey that will lead them to France, Sweden, Lebanon, and Israel by plane, train, and bicycle. Along the way, they encounter people who challenge their religious and ethnic identities. At times, their relationship is tested, and their future seems uncertain. Welland has a clear, pleasant voice. While not a master of accents, his tone is pleasant, and he infuses emotions into this adventurous story.
