This delightful collection of four Dostoevsky novels (CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, THE IDIOT, DEVILS, and THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV); three short stories ("The Friend of the Family," "Bobok," and "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man"); and two separate reflections on the author's work is quite a tour de force. The novels and short stories are presented as radio dramas. All the performers are splendid. They are energetic, quite expressive, and suitably melodramatic. (This is Dostoevsky, after all.) The two reflections are an essay by John Gray and an interview with the former Archbishop of Canterbury. Gray is an excellent narrator, and the interview is quite spritely. Anyone who is a fan of Dostoevsky will find this to be a most welcome production and a marvelous listening experience.
