FITS AND STARTS A Memory of Living with Epilepsy

by | Read by Tracy Wiles, Franziska Thomas

Biography & Memoir • 5.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2021

Narrator Tracy Wiles keeps up a good pace, which adds to this memoir's upbeat mood and humor. She reads clearly and seamlessly combines statistics and studies, along with a variety of moods that tell a convincing story of the author's life with epilepsy. The stream-of-consciousness mood is enhanced by buzzing and echoing music that suggests the mental state Thomas enters when she experiences her "fits and starts." Though her husband and children are understanding, too often the outside world is not. As Thomas educates listeners with empathy, Wiles sometimes expresses her mental fatigue with well-placed sighs. The artful soundtrack is well integrated into the narrative. Headphones are recommended for the "immersive sound." The dedication and interspersed quotes are delivered by the author.
