Sometimes an audiobook can be of exceptional historical value without being an exceptional audio production. Such is the case with Meta Wilde's account of her long-term and often interrupted love affair with William Faulkner. She discloses intimate information about Faulkner's moods, desires, insecurities and dreams, which only a lover is privy to. Yes, we hear pages turning, the pace is uneven, and verbal glitches of all kinds are apparent. But no one can mistake the sincerity in the surprisingly youthful voice of the reader who shares with us what it was like for her to hold America's greatest writer in her arms.
