This meticulously researched, obsessively detailed tale of Rome from 110 B.C. to 100 B.C. centers largely on the political ambitions of two men. With its myriad strange-sounding three-named people, and unfamiliar terms and concepts, it is a difficult choice for audio. It is not possible for the listener to absorb everything--especially while driving. However, Peters's reading is superb. Her British accent pointedly sets the tone for events of long ago and far away. Her vocal characterizations are minimalistic but easy to follow. It is a testament to the power of Peters's ability that the listener gets swept up in the many narrative passages. An excellent rendering of very difficult material.
