Before WWI becomes something that happened "at the beginning of the last century," it's time to remind ourselves just how shocking, how mysterious, how devastating the war was. It was the war that exploded out of nowhere and that even now fascinates scholars. This audiobook is a must-have for history buffs. Prebble, whose voice will be familiar to fans of British television, narrates as though he were performing a one-man dramatic show. Audiobooks have no index, of course, so there's no easy way to go back and listen again to some important passage. But this is only a minor annoyance.
