The Famous Five--four cousins and a dog--mix boys and girls, all somewhere between the ages of 8 and 13 years old in adventures. In FIVE GO OFF TO CAMP the Five foil a black market smuggling ring by sneaking around in an abandoned train tunnel. The childish voices reproduced with crisp British accents by Francis are beguiling. In fact, the cheerful, plucky tone of this actress's readings is the most appealing thing about this volume, adding life and believeability to the pedestrian writing and unlikely plot twists.
