Pete Bradbury gives a powerful performance of Steve Yarbrough's account of a Southern town's relationship with a camp housing enemy prisoners of war during WWII. This unabridged recording sometimes feels like an abridgment because the focus given to individual characters keeps the listener guessing about the ultimate action of story. Yarbrough is a thoughtful writer who gently leads rather than directly informing his audience about the motivations of his characters. Bradbury does an outstanding job of providing appropriate accents to a wide range of characters. His Polish prisoner of war has an accent as believable as that of the Southern good old boys. This production brings together Yarbrough's complex story and Bradbury's thoughtful performance. R.F. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 05]
