FLIGHTS OF ANGELS

This short story collection is the eighth by Southern writer Ellen Gilchrist. These stories detail the lives, loves and foibles of heroines often seen in her other collections and also introduce some eccentric new ones. In New Orleans and surrounding locales, intricate subjects as diverse as teenage love, assault and attempted rape; the impending execution of an admitted murderer; and the exploration of an abandoned nuclear reactor are explored. These escapades are imparted with straightforward diction by Mary Peiffer. She occasionally imparts just a hint of a Southern accent into her narrative.
