Saint John's performance is tremendously appealing--full of sass and wit. The daughter of Ghanaian immigrants, she lost a college boyfriend to suicide and a baby to preeclampsia, succeeded in the business world, and navigated an interracial marriage. This is a memoir full of grief and love, and Saint John sounds genuine and reflective. But when she sees the funny or absurd side of things-- which is quite often--her voice contains a clear "are-you-kidding-me?" tone.
