The organization of Mallika Chopra's book fits the audio format perfectly. The 100 promises of the title are recited, then explained, and an accompanying story is told. Chopra's love for her children is clear and accessible; many listeners will smile in recognition. However, neither the writing nor the delivery is especially distinguished. Unlike her father, Deepak Chopra, whose resonant voice makes the brief foreword nearly hypnotic, Mallika's delivery is, well, basic. It is always clear, but it lacks dramatic timing. Personal emotion is also lacking, which is surprising, given that Mallika is discussing her own life. G.T.B. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 06]
